The decisive period is finally here. All those moments of waiting and anticipation all amounts to nothing. Indeed the PAP has proven again that it has the support of the masses, but not totally, as can be seen from the concluded General Elections. However, the opposition still kept a strong hold on their seats, like hougang's Low Thia Khiang, and Potong Pasir's Chiam See Tong. The people there has rejected the advances of the ruling party, especially the multi-million upgrade plan, cos the money comes from the people in the first place.

Its been a very exciting experience for me, although i still cannot vote. Even my parents can't cos Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC was a walkover. I actually attended my first ever election rally last week. Well, zhonghao and me went to watch the Worker's Party @ Yishun on wednesday, and it was quite a thrilling experience. Its really a great atmosphere and there's a unique feeling felt in me, something of defiance? It was a feeling i've never had this lifetime. People storm in to watch the rousing speeches of the WP. There aren't many chances that we can see the opposition speaking in public.

On Thursday, i went to Ang Mo Kio with guo hui to watch yet another WP rally. This time, the people attending the rally is even greater than before, estimated abt 10,000. This is crazy...We saw the WP flag being waved around vigorously by the WP supporters, who were very vocal and passionate. Affected by them, i actually shouted and cheered for the WP speakers, including Low Thia Khiang, who was 1 person i admire. With high spirits and a moment of rashness, i actually bought the WP flag for fun and waved it around. It feels great, believe me. Guo hui bought the party manifesto for 5 bucks...

In fact, the popularity of the WP was shown on polling day, when it achieved commendable results of an average of 38% votes in the seats in contested. The courage of the young WP 'suicide squad' to contest in Lee Hsien Loong's Ang Mo Kio GRC is applaudable too, and they actually had 1/3 of the votes. Ajunied was the fierest battle among all GRCs and the PAP eventually emerged victorious with 56% majority votes over the WP. The "Gomezgate" has dominated the news, and i believe that there's no need for the PAP to kick up such a big fuss. James Gomez has already apologised, and there's nothing to be explained...Overall, I think it was a good showing for the WP in this GE and it shows that WP is developing and growing, with better candidates joining. The momentum must be maintained for success in the future.

We can't deny the hard work and commitment that the PAP has put in for years to build up Singapore. Indeed, if there's no PAP, there's no Singapore today. But there are some actions that I cannot agree with, like the GRC system. i dun think its justified, and that it has make things difficult for the opposition.

The oppostion is growing, for sure. Now that elections have ended, no matter who we have in the parliament, there is one common goal, and that is to bring Singapore forward in the 21st century. I actually stayed up till 3am on voting day, and even watched the press conference. Fatigue is seen in many candidates, for many days of tiring campaigning. The next GE promises to be more exciting, becos there will be a new batch of voters, including myself. Will the PAP stay in power? It has to prove it during these 5 years.

Looking back at myself, we only need to study for 2 days this week. Tomorrow is a school holiday due to election, Thur is sports day and Fri is public holiday. How cool can it get? A chance for me to get more rest and also catch up on my work.
